Glint | UK
London-based designer-maker Kate Wood launched Glint in December 2003. After completing her French degree, she worked as a museum curator while continuing to indulge her passion for jewelry making in her spare time.
'I've always loved jewelry', she says. 'As a child I mixed up wooden and plastic beads to make necklaces & I just kept on making things and teaching myself new techniques, although my taste has become a bit more refined over the years!'
Kate sources her materials carefully, and they serve as her main design influence. 'I don't sketch out my designs; I like to work directly with the stones & metals, building up clusters and cascades in quite a sculptural way. Much like the repetition you see everywhere in nature.'
Glint's feminine but unfussy jewellery is constantly evolving. 'I love fashion and I keep an eye on the trends, but I don't want Glint to be trendy thing,' she continues. 'I aim to make jewellery that women will want to wear every day, for years to come' |
